Irrigation System Design

Irrigation Consulting, with its team of Certified Irrigation Designers, spends hundreds of man-hours on the design of every irrigation system. Our systems are designed with water conservation, energy efficiency and future maintenance and system longevity in mind. Designs are custom to every site, with design site visits walking the golf course included to make bid documents accurate. Our design work includes sprinkler performance modeling, hydraulic analysis, and wiring circuit design for a complete set of drawings.

Bid Documentation

For an irrigation system installation to be bid and awarded cost effectively, documentation must be accurate, concise and thorough at the time of bidding. Irrigation Consulting produces bid documents with great accuracy using state of the art GPS mapping, AutoCAD drafting and hydraulic modeling procedures. All the necessary documents can be produced entirely from our office for bidding.

Construction Cost Estimating

The ability for clients to position available funding for an irrigation project is a product of accurate construction cost estimates from the professionals designing the irrigation system. Irrigation Consulting has a reputation for producing accurate cost estimates at all stages of the design process. Additionally, our designs are maintained within the budgets dictated at the onset of the project.

Project Bidding Services

In addition to the required documentation, bidding services are available from Irrigation Consulting, covering everything from contractor pre-qualification, pre-bid and pre-construction meetings to required addendum, bid analysis and review, price negotiation and final award notification.

System Evaluation Reports

Many golf course facilities are faced with outdated irrigation systems that require significant maintenance. Irrigation Consulting is often brought in as an independent party to evaluate and report on the current state of existing golf systems. Our evaluation report is extremely detailed, outlining operating pressures, sprinkler spacing and performance, wiring integrity, equipment condition, pipe and fitting reliability, current maintenance costs and safety concerns. Recommendations and cost estimates are derived from a two-day on site evaluation. Also included are graphic sketches of current conditions done with GPS mapping equipment.

Water Source Engineering & Permitting

The heart of any golf course irrigation system is its pumping system. Proper planning and design of a state of the art golf course irrigation pump station is crucial to the outcome of the entire irrigation project. Irrigation Consulting is well versed in the engineering requirements of pump systems for golf facilities, and their need to deliver water to the system economically, at an acceptable rate under safe conditions. Our firm has designed all types of pumping systems, specific to the site for which they were being installed. Important safety features are engineered into the pump system, as its reliability directly affects that of the entire irrigation system. Other services offered related to pump systems include fertigation system design, pump house design and electrical service design.

Upon completion of an approved preliminary irrigation design, Irrigation Consulting can produce accurate, informative water use and supply reports for the proposed irrigation system. This report outlines anticipated water usage for the irrigation system using multiple watering requirement scenarios. In addition, this report outlines required pumping parameters to be designed as well as water supply information, storage capacity for the site, required water recharge rates, anticipated draw-down of existing water supplies and the expected watering window for operation of the system.

Construction Administration

The coordination of an irrigation installation project is as crucial as the design itself. This burden is taken from the Owner and placed on the shoulders of our firm, providing significant protection for their investment. We give our clients someone to hold accountable for the scheduling and quality control of the project, its coordination and eventually its outcome. Construction coordination spans many specialized tasks including:

GPS Mapping Services

Irrigation Consulting, utilizing the increased accuracy, enhanced graphic quality and reliable file format of AutoCAD and a Global Positioning System (GPS), can produce golf course irrigation system related base maps and record drawings for our clients. This exciting service can provide the golf course with an accurate record of the irrigation system that has been installed, making maintenance in the future easier to perform and less expensive. Golf course features such as greens, tees, fairways, cart paths and other information, as well as sprinkler, valve, piping and wiring locations can all be pinpointed using GPS, and translated into electronic Record Drawings. This method is required for interaction with today’s central control software and imaging systems. A reproducible drawing, digital file and hole-by-hole laminated worksheets can be provided for future use. GPS services are available as three distinct services; base mapping, record drawings and interactive mapping compatible with the chosen irrigation software.

Central Control Programs

In order for a new, state of the art golf course irrigation central control system to be managed properly, scheduling and programming must be performed by experienced personnel, side by side with the management staff of the golf course. Irrigation Consulting employs professionals trained on all major manufacturer’s control system software. With this in mind, our firm offers the service of professionally programming and scheduling the golf course central control system upon completion of the installation and GPS record drawing.
